my experience is that you will want to get into eid (expression interactive designer) first and if so try out this rather good tutorial:

it shows you have to build a video player (just stop and pause with a .wmv playing) but some of the techniques used give you a good insight into data binding and control templates.

also you can see how 'codebehind' works with xaml which is very worthwhile.

i highly recommend this one and if you need help just shout.
