Daily Feature #4 – Import 3ds Files with Bitmap Textures

Import a 3ds file with bitmap textures and Swift 3D will now effortlessly attach the textures associated to the object in their respective UV coordinates.

Don’t forget to check back for Daily Feature #5!

daily feature minus weekends equals prolonging the already painful process of waiting for your product. Again, nice feature though.

I just came here to mention the lack of attention on the weekend side of things and you beat me to it Dominick :)

Waiting for the next update made me remember the feature I think would be handy in the next release:

Can we have an auto align, auto space, auto distribute facility like in flash. If you creating multiple instances of an object, having to manually go into the inspector and calc. the difference/offset for each object is a pain.

This really is needed in V4!

Guys, everyone needs a break at least once a week.

well, in fear of sounding overly prude, I would say that if this were my product, and I were releasing it, given the delays and given the expectations of the target audience, I would go that extra mile to take 2 minutes out of my weekend to add a link to the features page. if I said I was going to release features daily - every day - then I would do so. as much as I love the people at erain, they seem to be bad at keeping up with themselves.

Um, hello. It's the weekend guys! Everybody there has probably put in their fair share of weekends and all nighters. Give em a break! From what they've shown us thus far, they DESERVE a break!

Besides, didn't we get two one day last week?

no we didn't get two last week. The date was just wrong. I don't think were complaining about the time. I do know that they have several beta testers who have submitted material. They seem to have the architecture down on how to get the content to us. Its just a matter of creating one of those preview movie clips. Really they can run the business how ever they want. In fact, I still love the product regardless. I am also excited that were seeing features. Throwing up content when a company is close to release should be fairly painless. I think that many of us who have been waiting since late feb, had the idea that we only had 17 days left.

Seen the fifth threat ?... new features are getting better all the time !
Why are (some) users so impatient ? What's a week or two in a lifetime ?

its more poor communication/misunderstanding rather than impatience. It would seem the daily features are week-daily and we're not looking at calendar days in the listing provided in the new features page.

Feature Comment.

This is going to be great for people who like to model in other apps Lightwave, or whatever. It's going to be a much more streamline process.

Dominick. The Feature Preview is not intended to correlate with the product launch date. The Feature Preview is purely meant to showcase the new features in Swift 3D v4. The product could release before or after the feature previews are completed. It all depends on how smoothly the beta goes. My development status reports will provide insight into the launch date. We will also post the official launch date on the homepage of Erain, Blog, and Feature Preview after we wrap up the beta.

As for the weekend feature preview inquiry, we didn’t originally plan on releasing feature previews over the weekend. I can see why this was unclear with labeling of daily features in the Blog. We will start releasing features this weekend to stay consistent with the labeling.

Also, a heads up…we may add features to the Feature Preview showcase as we enhance areas of the product to address internal testing concerns and beta team suggestions. I can already think of a few feature additions we made to the product that are worth sharing with everyone. These feature additions do not reflect a change in the launch date. The launch date is purely dependent on beta testing and bug fixes. We may start releasing multiple features a day or all of them if the product finishes before the feature previews are completed. I hope that helps clarify a few unclear areas of the Feature Preview/launch. Feel free to email me with any further questions, concerns or suggestions – ewunsch@erain.com.

Thanks for the heads up CF. Thats exciting to hear that it may release on or before the preview released end date. Not so sure how I feel about the later release date. Of course I want a solid product but no matter how much people complain about mx2004's early release of an unstable product, I still commend them for it. I like having the tool (technology) no matter how it behaves so as long as a company puts pride in patching its software which mx2004 will be doing with ellipse. Anyway, I think your strategy is pretty good regardless. We love seeing features before the product is released.
